Mia Farrow destroyed my image of Daisy

Since studying TGG for A-Level I decided to watch this adaptation of the book. Overall I thought that it was rather good, but the whole experience was ruined by Mia Farrow's extremely of the line performance.

I was repulsed by her attempts at attraction and found her version of Daisy to be one of the most frustrating people to ever be around, not, as Fitzgerald wrote, a person full of promise and charm. Her stutters were annoying, not vulnerable and alluring, and her excitement was so great to the point that it was not understandable and made me clearly see Mia Farrow's overacting. I basically thought that she ruined the movie, as Gatsby's, and other's, attraction to her was supposedly the centre of the book. I expected her to have an alluring, almost ethereal quality, which Mia Farrow (despite her physical attractiveness) could not pull off.

I have hopes that the 2012 film, even if it is in 3D, will tackle this issue and create a better film.

I think Mia Farrow's Daisy is laughable. I agree with everything said, she completely ruined the character and the movie. I think she was one of the biggest miscasts I've seen from book to movie.
I think Carey Mulligan will be a much better Daisy.

^^ Yes, what was with those oddly inserted bird shots?

Mia ruined the movie. Tho Karen Black turned in a good performance.
Tom was good, and Redford seemed so intent on preserving his look that he was stilted.

Then it dawned on me, this was how Gatsby was. He perceived that he had to be this way, because the rich were stilted and reserved except at his parties.
He was nouveau rich, not like Daisy, always rich.

That is what made Jay not himself unless he was alone with Daisy. So I guess Redford did catch the essence of Gatsby.

Maybe I just didn't pay attention, but I loved Mia Farrow.

So, if her performance destroyed the character for you, I fear for myself and watching the newer version, because I will probably have the opposite experience – in that the actress playing Daisy in the newer film will probably destroy it for me.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

I did like Mia's performance too. The remake was just bad. The actors were not really bad but as a whole the new film was a mess.

She was pregnant during filming and probably felt like crap. Give her a break.

I agree. Mia sucked as Daisy and came off as a trembly-voiced nutjob. You would have never thought of two extremely rich and powerful men fighting over her.
