one more thing.. which came first?
texas or deranged? they both say 1974..
shareDerenger was in Feb. and Texas in Oct.
*** Love, Peace & Comprehension (among others) do it better! :-)
the release dates are different months, but it looks like they were both shot in or around the summer of 1973. looks like it might actually be a tie.
sharederanged was clearly filmed in the winter time, id say mid winter maybe and tcm summer not 100% which was first though...
sharei just found out, that deranged was filmed in mid-late winter of 72 and tcm was in the summer of 73 with both films finally being released in 74, hope this helps, james.
shareas far as i know Deranged was not shot in the US. Tom Savini commented that he finished DEATHDREAM during summer and immediately left for the DERANGED shoot, which i believe he said was in Romania. and he was pissed because he was still packed for the warm weather.
share Actually,"Deranged" was filmed just outside Toronto,Ontario, near a little town called Grimsby.Bob Clark(who co-produced "Deranged" with Alan Ormsby)stayed in Toronto another year or so to shoot another cult/horror masterpiece,"Black Christmas".Both films share 3 or 4 of the same cast members.
Concerning which started shooting first,"TCM" or "Deranged",I seriously doubt Ormsby and Clark got wind of Hooper making a horror film very loosely based on the Ed Gein murders while they were shooting "Deathdream" down in Florida, intuiting also that TCM would be the cult-smash monster that it ended up becoming, but who knows?I'd chalk it up to synchronicity myself. Also,Hooper claims that he never consciously drew from the Ed Gein case, but admits he'd been told some stories as a kid about him, something about a lamp bound in human flesh being found at Geins' home.
