What the hell were they eating? Kiwi? Is there another fuzzy food that I'm overlooking? Whatever it was looked tough to chew.

It was an artichoke and the fuzz is too be avoided.

Thank you for solving the mystery for me. I've never eaten artichoke but I will definitely avoid the fuzz if I do.

I shouldn't bother with globe artichokes. They're so tedious to eat for very little taste.
