Harrison Ford had a small role in this film, and Hackman was already a box office name, by the time this movie came out. Hackman is also a character actor, and a brilliant one. Harrison Ford was a leading man, (and never a character actor) and until say 10 years ago, has not had "challenging" roles, due to his well, skills as an actor.

Ford's role is this film is not a supporting role to Hackman's main character, and Ford'a role was simply that of a handsome, distraction and was not key to Hackman's character.

I am not diminishing Ford professionally, as an actor but I just think that it is very easy to understand why he and Hackman, have not worked with one another throughout their careers; 2 totally types of actors.

Jack's not dead! Jack would never die without telling me, first!

Ford was an unknown at the time.

Its that man again!!

Ford and Hackman are not in the same league. Ford did fine here, because he was a supporting player. Hackman can carry a movie like this, but Ford could never do it.

I guess Harrison Ford was known at the time as the guy in American Graffiti
