What is this 7.9 crap? This film is a masterpiece but according to the rating system Forrest Gump is a far better picture.... total BS.

I wouldn't spend an iota of time worrying about IMDB's movie ratings system. The fact that Shawshank holds fast to its #1 spot after 20 years tells you all you need to know. The Conversation is a masterpiece - don't worry, you have plenty of company there.
