Does he go to jail, or is he too rich???
Does he get to keep his daughter, which her mother, was trying to save her from????
Could she end up getting raped by him and the EVIL forces of the movie win???
Does he get convicted for the whole water shortage and cheap land buying scandal that he created???
The film provides no answers to any of these, but the intentions of the film makers were that viewers would assume that Noah got away with everything.
Did she ever know that her father, Mr. Cross, killed her husband???
Her remark to Gittes about the glasses (
"Those didn't belong to Hollis...he didn't wear bifocals") was rather offhand, but she had already warned him of the possibility that Noah was behind Hollis' death.
Why would Mr.Cross be in his daughters house if she never wanted to have anything to do with him ever again after he Raped her????
Noah went to the Mulwray house to confront Hollis, either about Katherine or as a continuation of the argument they were photographed having...or both. Incidentally, while it may have legally been rape because she was underage, she clearly shakes her head "no" when Gittes asks,
"He raped you?" Statutes of the time may have defined it as rape, but she was indicating that it was consensual.
Why would her husband still work with him after what he did to her; his daughter?????
He didn't. Evelyn stated that she was 15 when the sex with her father occurred, and that she
"was just out of grade school" when her father and Hollis sold the water supply to the city, and also that she believed they never spoke again after the dam collapse.
