One of the most unexpected things in a movie....

is when ( and I apologize if this WASN'T the movie" but is this where the gangster who is trying to make sure that he gets his loan back, rakes his girlfriends' face with broken glass....just to show how serious he was!

I was totally unprepared for that and I must have seen the movie 20 years ago. The scene still is unforgetable to me? Anybody else feel that way?

Can anyone come up with any more "unexpected, coming out of left field, unanticipated scenes" from any other movies?

The movie you're thinking of is "The Long Goodbye" which also starred Elliot Gould and was also directed by Robert Altman. Both movies rock.

wrong movie

but i found it kind of interesting that Sparkie let Bill off the hook so many times
guess they really were buds of some sorts
