Felt more Scream than Halloween
With the creepy phone calls and the killings this seems more like it inspired Ghostface instead of Michael Myers.

shareWell, it inspired the hell out of Halloween!
shareAside from the phone calls I don't see it.
Scream and Halloween are what I call popcorn slashers. Fun movies, very commercial.
Black Christmas' atmosphere is much darker and deeper than either of those. It's much more oppressive, approaching The Texas Chain Saw Massacre levels regarding it's tone and atmosphere. Very cold and eerie.
There is no god. Morality is subjective. Deal with it.
shareEven as an adult, those creepy phone calls were unlike anything I've ever heard from a psychotic like the way this movie portrayed.. The phone calls were genuinely creepy
shareI think the Halloween comparison was due to the POV shots from Billy's angle. And maybe because they were both set during holidays.
The tone felt similar, I guess. But I also feel that was more down to them both being 1970s movies as much as anything.
Having said that, I don't really see any similarity between Black Christmas and Scream, outside of the phone calls you mentioned. Two very different movies tonally.
The creepy phone calls disturbed the shit out of me as a kid watching this along with "Billy" looking behind the door and you just see his HUGE eyeball
