Who's the girl on the boat?

Right before the very end, who's the girl on the boat supposed to be? She comes down the stairs (and as she does so, nudges a smaller kid out of the way!) wearing a sailor's hat, and stands in front of Gail. Gail winks at her and she winks back.

Huh?

This movie is ludicrous on every possible level. So bad that it's NOT even 'so bad, it's good.' What a waste of time. GAH!

Oh, come on. It has some fun moments. Worth it just for the flute scene and rockin music.

That's not a girl, it's a boy. The daughter (Gail) is flirting with him cause she's reading Love Story again and she's supposed to be too mature for her age. So obviously he winks to flirt back with her.

Yes, it's a boy and he flirts with Gail, who winks back. She shows that she is pleased with the ending of the book she just finished.
