How the 'HELL' can this be an 'Exocist Rip-off'?

How can you idiots say its an "Exorcist Rip-off"? There isn't an EXORCISM in the whole damn movie! No self-doubting priest in sight! This is not a Catholic propaganda movie like the Exorcist was. Instead its about having an ugly secret in your life that comes to light when you least expect it. It has nothing to do with the Exorcist stupid premise of "is it mental illness, or is it real eeevil". I say stupid because I've never heard of mentally ill folks shape-shifting into pig-faced demons.

I agree. This movie plays more like Rosemary's Baby instead of The Exorcist.

"SHE BREATHED ON ME! A DEAD PERSON BREATHED ON ME!!"

Except that the mother is possessed and there are several scenes that are completely imitating the exorcist.

I think they just took some of the more memorable ideas from the Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby and built the movie around that.

Exorcist ripoff or not, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to all horror fans. In my opinion, it is just as good as The Exorcist. The only reason people dislike it is because the makers of The Exorcist decided to sue because of the similarities, so they just dismiss it as nothing but a cheap B-movie ripoff, which is really a shame because they are missing out on a very great film.

"Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings."

Well; it’s not a rip-off in the sense of being an actual remake. If it had of been, Warner Brothers mostly like would took the distributor to court, and got it off the market (much like Universal did with a movie called GREAT WHITE…which I actually saw before its removal…it wasn’t bad). However; the movie does borrow ideals from the EXORCIST, such as the green pea soup, and the spinning head (okay, she just turns her head around backwards, but still…). And by the way, that’s the single scene that scared the crap out of me…and yes, even though I was just a kid, I saw BEYOND THE DOOR when it was a first released.

Generally speaking; any movie that takes the basic idea of a hit movie, is usually referred to a rip-off: FRIDAY THE 13TH was considered a rip-off of HALLOWEEN. Of course, as we now know; it was indeed a rip-off, intentionally so, but then other splatter movies rip-offed FRIDAY THE 13TH!

Actually, the makers of Beyond the Door were taken to court by Warner Bros. - and were found not guilty. Jessica's possession was obviously tailored on specific elements of Friedkin's movie - but that's pretty much where the similarities end.

Thanks for the info.

The same way Piranha was a Jaws rip-off.

A movie doesn't need to have a duplicate narrative let alone a scene for scene copy to be a rip-off. It just has to be a film with a similar thread (demonic possession) in this case rushed into production based on the box office success of another film.

Audrey Rose which has nothing to do with demonic possession is another oft-cited example of an Exorcist rip-off.
