I dont get the appeal

I watched half of this movie expecting something very good but i was hugely disappointed. For all the good reviews and ratings it ended up being very boring, typical, and not very interesting.

Take it for what it is : Its from the 70s and its a Made For TV Movie.
I always thought it was good for a TV movie. It probably would have been even better as a movie (from what I hear the book is very violent). You have to remember they had to be careful what they showed on TV. But for me just the thought of someone living in the walls of your house watching you was creepy enough!

I think another thing that makes it appealing is Ronalds a pretty sympathetic charactor in that he was a nerdy mamas boy who ACCIDENTALLY killed someone and then it just snowballed out of control from there. Its sort of sad how he starts out a good kid who eventually goes mad.

Look at the ages of those of us who saw it back then. We were impressionable kids, it was late at night, we'd outgrown the fear of the Wicked Witch of the West, and were hearing about some crazy guy called Charlie Manson. Reality had yet to be determined. It was creepy, and good or bad, we remember it that way.

To really appreciate this made-for-TV movie you pretty much had to have seen it back then. It scared the crap out of many young kids, including me. Try lying in bed all night wondering what's hidden behind the walls. It's right up there with "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (1973) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/

Most fans of this movie drew up in the '70s and/or the '80s.

Why do people watch old movies expecting to see something new?
