Gloria Swanson...
She was already 77, when they made that movie. Damn! I thought she only looked as if she were in her mid-fifties...

Swanson won an award that year for "Airport '75": Harvard Lampoon's Curse-of-the-Living-Corpse Award ("Gloria Swanson, an actress only slightly older than the mountains she is imperiled above in 'Airport '75'").
shareLOL, I just love the irreverence of the Harvard Lampoon. They also honored Kate Hepburn and Lucille Ball in the same way. In fact in 1945, they gave The Actress with the Most Toes in the Grave Award to Joan Crawford, who was just pushing 41 at the time! A year later, they simpilified the award's title to the Oldest Actress Award, which they again bestowed to Joan Crawford! Of course, they didn't expect Joan to accept it in person.
shareIn the course of the movie considering that Miss Swanson did not leave the plane she changed her outfit at least three times. I always thought this was an unforgivable continuity blunder but the divine Gloria was famous for never wearing the same outfit twice so it was probably in her contract. It's a dreadful but watchable movie.
shareNot surprising about the outfit changing the movie made it seem like that 747 was an airborne cruise ship- I kept waiting for Gavin MacLeod. Maybe he was in it everybody else seemed to be. Yep a so bad it's good flick- with a barf bag nearby.
shareSince she was born in 1899 and this movie was made in 1974, she would have been 75. I hope I look half that good at 75 -if I even live to 75!. I wonder if she had plastic surgery. What amazing cheekbones she had!!!
shareYes, but she looked as if she were ready to EAT the other actors-including the sap in the cockpit who remarks ''And you gotta see Gloria Swanson-she looks TERIFFIC!''
shareI know what you mean - a very menacing, cold sort of beauty- like the evil queen in "Snow White".
shareNope-more like The Big Bad Wolf in ''Little Red Riding Hood''.
shareThey had faces back then in those silent flicks.
