Skip the first 40 minutes
A big chunk of the start of this movie is hammy soap opera scenes and dialog before you get to the actual plane crash. If you want just the action, fast forward about 40 minutes.

Here's another idea: skip this altogether and REWIND all the way back to the fantastic "Airport."
shareI like the first Airport also. Mainly because I saw it with my parents at the theater and it was a big deal. Now, it's a little cornball and a bit hokey, but I'll still watch it. The soundtrack is really good. Had to buy the album and have a friend convert it to mp3.
shareI had the soundtrack album too. But not too many years ago it was available on CD, which I also obtained.
The brilliant Alfred Newman went out with a huge flourish.
The first Airport movie was by far the best one. I understand Burt Lancaster hated being in it. (What was his problem?) It had a great cast and I liked the background music as well.
I serve a risen Saviour! John 3:16
I wouldn't want to miss the opening credits. The music by John Cacavas is also fine and it accompanies Karen Black walking through the crowded terminal in her Edith Head outfit, which looked rather similar to Jean Seberg's outfit in the last scene of Airport. Admittedly, this kind of opening seems more appropriate for some of those women's films Jill Clayburgh and Marilyn Hasset starred in during that period.
And how could I skip Gloria Swanson's grande entrance!
