'I'm a best friend to myself'
Quite possibly the worst lyrics in a song ever.
Next time you watch this movie, listen to the nuns lyrics. The song is so bad it is good!

I think Helen Reddy wrote that song herself...kinda explains it!
"Wow, entertainers AND dancing girls? Is there a buffet as well?"
Well, this was the 70's. The ME generation. I'm okay, you're okay and all that garbage.
shareIt's certainly an anthem for the me generation, which makes it peculiar coming from a Roman Catholic nun. When I was a kid in the seventies, one of my teachers was a nun who played the guitar and sang folk style songs. This wasn't one of them. Self absorption wasn't the kind of thing they encouraged.
shareI agree that other people won't always be around. They go off and do other things, and that is just how it is. I've always felt that people that are always part of a pack are really weak minded. I have no idea what that's like.
Even if you didn't like the song, I thought it was beautifully sang even if it was kind of silly.
She sang it as a folk song. When it was released as a single (it didn't chart), it had a little bit more of a soft rock style to it. I like the song - people have said "I'm my own best friend", so the lyrics aren't completely inane. And what's wrong with being good to yourself and being able to stand on your own two feet? It's good to learn to make your own fun and that you don't always need someone else with you to have fun. It sure beats Can't Smile Without You - that is one of the most singsong, insipid, annoying songs I've heard - someone repeatedly saying he or she is helpless without someone else. Barry Manilow sings it, but he may not have written it. And it's better than Justin Bieber's song where he just sings the word "baby' 100 times.
shareThat last part made me laugh. I was just thinking recently when I heard songs where all they say is the same line over and over. I think gosh that is amazing you can have a song that is played on the radio and it is just the same sentence over and over I am not sure if I have heard Justin Bieber's song but I can imagine what you said is true and that is so funny. How in the world he is a success I'll never know.
shareIt sounds like a metaphor for masturbation.
shareI'm sure it seems strange in this day and age but it sounds like it came a decade to late.

Deftones make the world a better place
It's an interesting choice of a song, when she had just decided to make friends with the sick girl on the plane and uses her guitar to sing about being a best friend TO HERSELF.
