DVD set of Shazam

I just ordered the DVD set from Amazon. I have to say that I am pleasantly satisfied with the set. I put on the Season 2 disc in my DVD player and I decided to click on the moral statements icon.

The moral statements come on after the show by Billy Batson or Captain Marvel. Some of the moral statements at the end of the show were horrible. It wasn't the statements that were bad, it was the video quality. Some of the videos looked like something you would see on You Tube. Especially the Jason Bostick videos. I don't know if anyone agrees with me.

I read that after the series was ended on CBS, most of the "moral" segments weren't included for future syndication, and the originals were apparently lost or destroyed, so the segments on the dvd set were actually provided by other sources, i.e. fans who had the original episodes on tape; hence the poorer quality. Same thing with the Isis dvds.

Thank goodness they included the segments anyway, despite the poor quality!

I agree Engle. Even though some of those clips are very low quality, it is still nice to have them.

I agree with all that. But I have two very minor criticisms:

1) With regard to the "morals" ending tags, I wish they had organized the menu a little better. When you put the DVD in the mode to play it with the morals, there is no longer any menu that allows you to select the episode. Of course, you can go to whatever chapter number you like, but all you have to go by is numbers.

2) This is regarding the station break tags that occurred when they broke for a commercial in the original broadcast run, where the announcer says "we will return to Shazam" and "now back to Shazam...". It is charming to see those again. But I don't really need to see them every time the break occurs when I'm watching an episode! And you get the departing tag immediately followed by the returning tag! It feels a little silly. That should have been simply an optional feature.

Still, on the whole I've been quite pleased with the DVD, and it's a joy to finally have this on discs.
