Shazam on TV Land
Have you been watching and what to you think of the shows? Paul
shareis this show actally being shown anywhere on tv??? i have not seen this show in over 20 years, and am highly intrigued by the thought of seeing it again. also wondered about. is shazam ever going to make an appearence on the justice league, and is there any plans for a comeback, or a movie???
shareI saw it recently on TV land. It was late at night. Watching it certainly brought back a lot of memories. I was a preteen when it was on the air.
I was wondering about the movie deal myself. Wonder who would be cast?
Divine Ms Slim
I doubt that he is going to make an appearence on Justice League, but it could happen eventually on Justice League Unlimited!
However New Line Cinema is in the process of an all-new live Shazam Movie, which should bring a smile to your face!
I was five when I first saw it. I have to say, it inspired my love of comic books that continues to this day. I even wrote a poem once about comics and growing up that remembers it.
I have not seen the show in a long time. Sadly, unlike many movies that surprise you at how well they hold up, this does not. It just is not very good. Jackson Bostwick cannot project to save his life. His voice sometimes is barely above a whisper.
I did get a kick out of the Elders. Apparently, when one is part of a group of immortal gods and heroes, what preoccupies you more than anything is whether some kid finishes high school. Using Captain Marvel for this is like using a cannon to kill flies.
I have always loved the character. I do hope someone sees the potential in him some day, and does a film, or animated feature, or new television show that treats him in the fashion he deserves. The best comic material featuring him was in the early Eighties, in World's Finest, drawn by the late great Don Newton, who did a modern interpretation of the character that was really striking. Back in the day (the 1940's), Marvel outsold Superman, and was the first superhero to get a Republic Serial, The Adventures of Captain Marvel, in 1941. At his best, he is a great character. As he is usually portrayed, Marvel is a poor man's Superman.
I agree with the two upper paragraphs! Seeing that the Elders are not just Gods of a single Mythology (Solomon-Bibical, Hercules-Greek, Atlas-Greek, Zeus-Greek, Acheilis [spelling]-Greek, Mercury-Roman); two of them were not Greek Gods but Titans. Solomon was from our continuity. If the elders were strickly consisted with Greek God, then who would replace Solomon, Atlas, Acheilies, and Mercury but still spell Shazam! I seriously don't think Ares would be appropriate to replace Atlas.
However, I don't know about Republic, but there were other Super-Heroes that had serials prior to "The Adventures of Captain Marvel"; The Spider (1938), Green Hornet (1939), Mandrake The Magician (1940).
Are you aware that "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" was originally going to be "The Adventures of Superman" and the producers decided to use the character of Captain Marvel instead because he was outselling Superman and figured that The Big Red Cheese was going to be the big thing of the future and The Man of Steel was going to be taking a back seat to Fawcett Comic's big hero. The scripted was slightly alter to fit Captain Marvel's characteristics.
I love this show and ISIS! They are so much better than the crap out now.
I am a big Marvel fan and general fan of the genre and I HATED the Spider-Man and Hulk movies, both X-Men movies are good though.
Everything now is dark and depressing. I'm ready for colorful costumes and "FUN" superheros to comeback, but I guess I'm the only person that feels that way.
Gothic muck rules these days. (sigh) Special effects do not make a great show. i.e. the Hulk movie.
Anyway I love the show. I wish that Warner Bros. would release all episodes of Shazam and Isis on DVD!

i like for you to send me a copy of the shazam in dvd my name is javier peles i love the show and saw it when i was small i just saw 3 ep of shazam in tv land
shareit would have been intersting to see captain marvel to fight an actual supervillian, or at least a true villian since every episode was basically a life lesson. btw mike, you made 2 mistakes about the immortals, the first a stood for atlas not aggenemnom, and atlas supplied stamina, achilles supplied courage. for those looking for it, it is now showing at 12:30 central time sat and sun mornings
shareHi,
I see these are old posts, is this still running on TV Land? Is it on late night? I want to tape an episode to show my cousin who is dating someone who totally resembles Michael and they were older when this show was on and never saw it.
Thanks :)))
"worrying is like a rocking chair....it gives you something to do, but doesn't get you anywhere"
I don't think its on TV Land any more. This show reminds me of the 70's Hulk show in that Billy/Captain Marvel drift around solving peoples problems and never fighting any of their great Super-villains. Hulk has Leader, Abomination, Rhino etc., Cap has Dr. Sivana, Mr. Mind (a talking worm!), Black Adam, Captain Nazi. There was always some kind of "value lesson" in each show and at the end they both just drifted on. The best version of Captain Marvel (I hate calling it Shazam, but it has to be called that for copyright reasons), is the 1940's movie serial with Tom Tyler (but still none of his villains).

It's on DVD, and that should be enough for everybody.
