"Prisoner of Rosemont Hall" (and "mageester")

In the episode "Prisoner of Rosemont Hall," Jim is investigating the disappearance of a fraternity pledge, and poses as an inspector from the frat's national HQ. He asks if the chapter has a "mageester" (or at least that's what the word sounded like to me), someone who helps the pledges keep their grades up to par.

I was never in any Greek organization, but I do remember a little of my high-school Latin, and I'm wondering whether "mageester" (or however it's spelt) is a version of the Latin word "magister," which we generally translated as "teacher."

OK, once I finished writing the above, I went looking online to see if I could confirm it, and yes, the Sigma Chi website mentions the word "magister" several times (with the meaning "pledge trainer"). I'd love to know how they pronounce it, but according to several online dictionaries, when used as an English word it's generally pronounced "mah-JIS-ter."
