And this is Albert Constantine, Jr.

Finally sat down and watched a RF for the 1st time in years and it's the bizarre penultimate episode where Rockford barely appears, and the story follows two random hoodlums looking to advance. But it did have one of the funniest lines in the show's run...

BOSS: I'd like to introduce you to Albert Constantine.
ALBERT: (removing his gun) And this is Albert Constantine, Junior.

That episode was a pilot for a proposed series starring Caniglaro and Long (and presumably Simon Oakland as Uncle Beppy).
During the first half Rockford is hardly shown, but when he is it's quite memorable.

I knew the show was responsible for at least of couple of backdoor pilots, like the one with young PI - and wondered if this was the case with the hoodlums - what a weird show it would have been based on this ep, like a criminal Laverne and Shirley

The weirder aspect of it is that on their first appearance they were drug-using murderers, and Canigliaro tried to kill his buddy Long.
When I watch the discs, I swap the two episodes, watching Just a Coupla Guys first.

Another pilot was Just Another Polish Wedding, attempting a "Gandy and Gabby" spinoff.

I thought a good spin-off would have been the one with Stephanie Powers as the P.I. Unfortunately she was one and done.

Spenser with an "S", like the poet.
