Wow, in the pilot Angel seems to have a legitimate job!

Backlash of the Hunter

Wonder why they reconstructed that character? He was a lot funnier as the friend you couldn't trust.
Also, Robert Donley played Rocky and was replaced by Noah Berry once the show was picked up.

Angel worked for his brother-in-law's paper throughout the show (although I think he was fired at one point and I'm a little fuzzy on whether or not he was rehired).

reply

Angel was a total piece ofS hit! As many times Jim helped him out, he would throw Jim under the bus every chance he got. I'll turn it off every time he's in an episode.

Do you yell at kids to get off your lawn also you a**hole?

Probably not as you are most likely in an institution of some sort...

You can't go wrong drowning politicians Henry. The Black Swan (1942)

with a little guidance. Personally, I blame his behavior on poor toilet training.

For your rude remarks I will put the ultimate curse on you:

When you go to bed tonight, try NOT to think of Angel.

Angel's "job" at the paper always seermed to be very informal; he could basically show up or not depending how he felt on a given day.

I think Aaron (Angels bro in law) know Angel was basically a jackoff and gave him a nothing burger job, enough to pay his weekly rent in his flop house hotel, just to keep his wife (Angel's sis) happy.

Angel was definitely written as a more hard edged character the last couple seasons: his screwups put Jim in real danger. Plus in a couple of the later episodes Angel really does steal stuff from Jim (or Rocky).

It wasn't just the later seasons. Season two's "Chicken Little" had two different underworld gangs almost killing Rockford due to Angel's scams.

In the first episode, Angel seemed less squirrelly and not as funny. But did Jim and Angel know each other before Jim was in prison?

Annoying the world since 1960!

reply

I doubt it.
It would seem that Charlie Harris was his first cell-mate. Then Angel, who was still there when Jim was pardoned.
It would seem that Jim knew Dennis before he went to prison. Dennis' kid was named after Rockford, or so Jim thought (Scotty, which was Jim's middle name), who had to have been born prior to Rockford's prison sentence.

Was Gandolph Fitch ever Jim's cellmate or did he just run the cellblock? I thought Jim said that all of the new inmates were put in with Fitch (himself included).

Jim said all the new inmates had to spend their first night in C Block, in Fitch's cell with the threat of returning there if they cause any trouble. Jim did it, but on "Second Chance" Angel and Fitch didn't know one another. Angel must've gotten lucky - maybe somebody else was already scheduled when Angel arrived.
