I agree Fillion could make it work. However, I also agree with others that re-making TRF could be a big mistake. To get that right combination of great writing, great acting, comedy + action + mystery, plus the right amount of humility, bad luck, charm, everyman sex appeal, and cynicism in the character (and portrayer) of Rockford is a Herculean task.
I'm not sure it can be done. TV sitcoms haven't been funny since Seinfeld went off the air and most TV dramas these days are simply fast-paced soaps, only with more sex and violence, a mystery/SCIFI/or supernatural element and of course high production values.
So where are the writers with the right comedy + straightforward drama skills to put this together? Where is the leading man who would allow himself to get beat up on a weekly basis and not care so much about his image? Where is the network (including an online network) that would dare to have a middle-aged lead character and a whole series in which no regular is under 30 years old (well, CBS maybe, but look at the formulaic police procedurals that CBS puts out these days -- I fear a Rockford version of CSI)?
