Leaving Netflix January 1st
Saw this onscreen notice in the Netflix card for this show :( only place it's available in hd
shareJust when I finally get around to checking it out, too. Always heard about this show and knew James Garner from other things but had never seen it. Just watched the pilot movie and first episode this evening, and really enjoyed them. Figures Netflix would get rid of it just as I start getting around to it. One more reason I hate streaming; you never know how long something will be available before it's gone.
shareWorst part is theres no Blu Ray or any way to buy the digital HD files since VUdu and AMazon dont have it and it looks so phenomenal in 1080p since it was filmed and edited on 35 mm (which has near 4k resolution). Such a beautiful little time capsule love looking at the all cars and fashions etc plus the shows itself is great.
shareIt's been on for YEARS. At least five. Which makes it so aggravating. All NFX cares about is producing their own shows now, which are all streamlined and most look unappealing. NBC bought the rights for their own channel.
shareActually some of the networks and other rights holders are seeing there are still people who are loyal viewers of their old shows which they thought were forgotten and leased to Netflix and when the new in between channels that were created when HD over the air broadcasting began where new networks like MeTV and Cozi TV were getting strong audiences. Now think they can make a mint by putting it on their own streaming channels Hulu, also Amazon Prime using streaming and started jacking up the prices for Netflix which pushed Netflix out so they had to come up with programing on their own.
shareThey're honestly not going to make much money over the next five years or so. Netflix is a major recognized brand which is available around the world. Most people in foreign countries even access U.S Netflix. Most of these network based streaming services have been in the works for the past year, yet are only available on select devices (in the U.S) or not even launched at all! I'm already turned off by this "Cozi TV". I'm not in the U.S so I can't access it anyway, and even if I did...why watch the show on a scheduled time with commercials when I could've been watching it anytime? The charm of Netflix is that there was something for everyone...now they're mainly focused on their streamlined "originals". It was reported that they are doubling their self-produced content for 2017, which shows they're mainly just focusing on that for now on. Oh well...there's still Star Trek and Cheers I guess...
shareI think that with the success of MeTV and some others showing some of these old shows plus Netflix providing good value too many rights holders see money in their eyes from old programming. And on cable many rights holders see how notespeciallyEntertainingandSPortsNetwork forcing cable companies to pay per subscriber something like 7 or 8 dollars even if the ratings show that only around 40% of the subscribers watch their programming. At some point when people whine that a cable system doesn't have a particular "Channel" but then cry about how expensive it is to have cable maybe there can be a falling apart and these rights holders can get perspective and bring the prices down to where they should be. With more and more cord cutters maybe reality will come and reasonable prices and availability will be the order. One can hope.
shareI think all you guys are right, netflix seems more concerned with original programming. They just took off 5 shows that I had in my list including Rockford, Colombo and The Night Stalker. Netflix appears to be going the way of TV Land which I no longer watch.
shareI don't think they have a choice because the rights holders including the networks that have a piece of the shows are seeing what they think is a gold mine and are putting it on streaming services they own a piece of. The rights holders are the bad guys here and Netflix can't pay too much for these shows or they would have to raise prices for the subscriptions to where you would complain about the price for the subscription. The problem the rights holders can't see but if you have to subscribe to several different streaming sites to get all of the shows you want they will get far fewer viewers, and without younger audiences becoming fans with less availability then in the future their rights will become worthless plus the fans of their shows will just view their "almighty rights" as less available and be disappointed by the absence of their favorite shows.
The rights holders are the ones limiting where it is available.
My brother has Amazon Prime but the free shows (he got it for Grand Tour....Clarkson, May, Hamond from Top Gear) are not the ones I want other than Mission Impossible the classic series. There is no way I can afford to use the buy option or rent option on Amazon. Unfortunately the free with commercials version of streaming that was out there went away.
