1)HATE Rhoda's curly hairstyle
2)What happened to Gary, he disappeared w/o a trace
3)Their parent's separation was so random and out of the blue
4)Don't like the new "stoner" girl
I think Gary's disappearance is explained by his having moved to Chicago, but I agree that S5 was a letdown. The writers didn't seem to know what direction to take the show in, and were just throwing in all sorts of random stuff, such as Ida and Martin's separation--ridiculous plot twists that didn't follow what we knew of the characters at all up to that point.
shareYes, Gary's departure is explained early on in the episode where Tina joins the costume company. Tina used to work for Gary at his store, and tells Rhoda and Jack she was left without a job when he closed it and moved to Chicago (I think to open a store with his brother?). She somehow remembered Rhoda worked for Jack's shop and went there for a job..and got hired.

I also notice and find it weird that Brenda and Benny now move in tandem. Everytime the door to Rhoda's apt open it's Brenda & Benny. Never Brenda alone.
