did they not eat pizzza
i never saw em pizza what gives
did they not like italians
Excellent observation.
I am pretty sure he 1950's era for teens was hamburgers and malts. (I am a gen X ER so I don't know for sure) Pizza was around but nowhere as big as today.
This show was modeled after the success of American Graffiti (1973) I don't think they ate 🍕 in that movie either.
thank you and interesting
shareI think pizza got popular with USA teens in the late 60's/early 70's, but I didn't google that!
shareAfter googling https://www.pastemagazine.com/food/america/the-history-of-the-pizza/
Interesting to read it WAS popular in the 50s. But I think everyone is right that there is a quintessential 1950s feeling of burgers and malts that the show was trying to convey. when I think of pizza, I think of 1980s with malls and ninja turtles.
shareYeah, malt/soda shops were popular hangouts for '50s teens. Those went out of fashion in the '60s and were replaced with the mall in the '70s though the heyday of mallrat culture were the '80s and '90s.
shareIn many places in the U.S., pizza was not nearly as big a deal in the 1950s and 1960s as it has been for the past few decades. I never encountered it until about 1965, when my family started occasionally ordering it from the nearest pizza place, a "Shakey's" a few miles away in the next town.
shareTheir hangout was a burger joint so it makes sense. Burgers and malts feels a lot more 50's to me than pizza's and coke.

Happy Days took place in Milwaukee IIRC, not NY, NJ, or CT where pizza was well established and deeply entrenched since the turn of the century.
Wtf you talking about. There was a whole episode centered around Fonz bringing Sick richie pizza and Laverne and shirley was centered around the pizza bowl...
shareYou are really slipping on your trolling. Fonzie? Chachi? Leather Tuscadaro? People intermixed but in general society was divided along ethnic lines back then. Especially if a family's roots were English. You probably crossed lines in school but generally did not interact otherwise especially at churches. If you were Italian you patronized the Italian baker, Italian butcher, and down the line.
shareIts a plot hole. Everyone has always loved pizza
