Westworld or Westernworld?

Not sure if it's intentional or just a continuity slip, but there's an inconsistency in the name of resort. The title of the movie is Westworld and when Richard Benjamin crosses the border into Roman World, the sign says "You are leaving Westworld". Yet all the advertisements and public service announcements refer to it as "Westernworld". Odd.

Yeah I thought that was strange too. Not sure what the intention was with that or if was ever explained. Why not just call it Western World which would make more sense? Was their already another movie by the same name and they didn't want confusion or to get sued?

Weren't Westerns losing their popularity by the early 70's?
Perhaps it was feared audiences would be put off if they got the impression the film was a Western.

In the initial introduction they actually refer to it using both titles

reply

Yes. I only noticed it being called Western World once, the rest of the time the spokesman referred to it as WestWorld.
