I always took that anal rape scene to be fake?
As fake as the anal rape scene in MYRA BRECKINRIDGE.

It was fake. No penetration. Schneider consented to do it, and regretted it after she realized how it would look to audiences.
shareThe director said she did NOT consent to it. He didn't want her to know what was going on so he could get a genuine reaction. You don't know what you are talking about.
shareYou may want to read this before claiming that I don't know what I'm "talking about":

Note that Schneider said:
"They only told me about it [the butter scene] before we had to film the scene."
Who doesn't know what they're talking about?
She did not consent to what? Pretending to be raped? Or are you saying Brando actually shoved his hard dick in her ass?
shareNo, for the last flippin' time, IT WAS NOT REAL; IT WAS FAKE; SHE WAS TOLD BUT ONLY RIGHT BEFORE (IT WASN'T IN THE SCRIPT), BUT IT WAS COMPLETELY SIMULATED; THESE WERE ACTORS PLAYING OUT AN INTENSE, IMPROVISED SCENE. NO ONE WAS RAPED...
She was already doing a semi-sexually explicit film role which she spent half of (consensually) naked and doing simulated sex scenes with Brando. She and Brando were friendly offscreen. Bertolucci asked them to actually have sex in the film, and and it was BRANDO who'd declined. Then, later, this infamous scene was improvised.
NO ONE WAS RAPED DURING THE MAKING OF THIS FILM.
Moreover, she and Brando remained friends for many years.
She later became involved with uber-feminists and she was in a lesbian relationship and THAT'S when, waayyy after the fact, she decided she'd been "exploited by chauvanists" on that film. That she later became a drug addict and had mental issues and so on likely had very little to do with this film, per se, but was more likely to do with a young girl finding enormous fame and wealth at a very young age. This is still going on today: See Lindsey Lohan or Miley Cyrus.
The British equivalent of the USA's National Enquirer tabloid, which is the Daily Mail, published, for some senseless reason, pull quotes from a years-old interview with bertolucci where he talked about the improvisation of that scene and how into the scene and emotionally devastated she became in that scene. Then, good ole super feminist Elle magazine pciked up on some more pull-quotes from that article, out of context, and just published them. It's a sad day when a TABLOID published a more accurate article than a mainstream magazine did. Now, in this era of "get the rapists" culture (still smarting about Trump winning), a bunch of uninformed Hollywood types took to Twitter to voice their "outrage" over this nearly half century old classic film, whose two stars are long dead. It is, however, quite hilarious that people like Chris Evans are saying on twitter that Brando "should be in jail"....Ummm...fella, he died nearly 13 years ago... It's just so, so absurd....
Good job, though, Elle magazine....because of this "controversy", "Last Tango in Paris" is curently sold out on Amazon, in both DVD and Blu ray. Just since yesterday, it is number 10 in blu ray sales.... I'm sure the owners of the film thank you for this.....

People are behaving as if she was actually raped when it was just pretend. Celebrities are coming out condemning the director and Brando as if the rape was real. What is the big deal? If she hadn't have wanted to do it she could have stopped the scene and got up.

Precisely.
shareIt is fake. Schneider was surprised by the intensity of improvisation the scene took on when the cameras rolled.
If you're going to speak either way about the scene at least know what you're talking about.
It was the butter that surprised Schneider.

So she was telling the truth. And listen to his interview
