Dr. Stoner bringing out the other Cobra - what if?

After Dr. Stoner successfully changes David into a Cobra, he suddenly decides to bring out his other Cobra out to the yard. But unlike earlier in the movie when he was giving a show, Dr. Stoner is cannot charm the Cobra as it kills him with two bites.

1. Why did Dr. Stoner suddenly decide to bring out his other Cobra?

2. Why wasn't Dr. Stoner successfully charm the Cobra like he did earlier?

3. Suppose Dr. Stoner didn't bring out his other snake and he was not killed. What would have happened to him? The police were on their way. I suppose he would be arrested and charged for sure - what for what? Any evidence David is now a Cobra?

IMHO -

1. Because he was an insane mad scientist, and they aren't known to be entirely stable and sensible.

2. Because he was getting older & his reflexes were slowing down. It was just a matter of time before one of the snakes bit him. (This is why you don't see very many 70-80 year old snake handlers!)

3. They may have found some of David's belongings, but without Habeaus Corpus, how would they charge him with a crime? Now maybe they could have got him for putting the mamba in the jock's shower (if he did that -it's been a long time since I watched this movie, & I don't remember everything).

In reality he probably would have gotten a slap on the wrist or maybe a visit from some animal/scientific regulatory agency.
