Music of a scene ?
What's the music that's heard when that man (cannot remember his name) is wounded and goes to die peacefully by the river ?
TIA

Apparently, the old "director's cut" was merely a working copy and the editing and mixing weren't finalized. The 2006 DVD will feature another cut and restores the vocal version of "Knockin'". The previous "director's cut", the last cut made before an MGM producer took the project out of Peckinpah's hands is featured on the 2nd DVD.
shareOK, I'm a little slow. That's mainly because I've never seen this movie but I am eagerly awaiting the box set and will definitely be purchasing it. Now, Amazon lists the 1st disc containing a 115 minute "2005 Special Edition" and the 2nd disc containing a 122 minute "1988 Turner Preview Edition." Now you say that the first disc will contain the vocal of the song and the second disc will just be instrumental? I'm assuming that you've seen the movie, so I have to ask: which way is better? I've seen the Peckinpah documentary on the Westerns Encore channel before, and they've showed this scene. To me it would always seem like it would be missing something if the vocal and the actual song wasn't there. The other question I have is which version would be better. I would assume they've actually tried to assemble what would have been Peckinpah's preferred version, but then why is this new one 7 minutes shorter? If you could provide any insight, I'd be very much appreciative.

Interesting thoughts. I watched the 2005 version when I bought the collection but I have not yet had a chance to watch the 1988 version though I certainly will as soon as I can. Supposedly, from what was said and advertised at least, the 2005 version was done according to notes made by Peckinpah or something to that effect. I guess it was supposed to be kind of like how Universal restored Touch of Evil according to that long memo that Orson Welles left them.
shareI saw the original theatrical cut when it was released in '73 and the Dylan lyrics were there under Slim Pickens' death scene. That scene made an incredible impression on me. I only saw the Turner cut for the first time about 4 months ago and REALLY MISSED the lyrics and felt the scene was less powerful for their absence. I'm glad they restored the lyrics for the 2005 cut.
shareI'm confused.
Would someone mind answering me:
Why isn't the Theatrical Cut (106 minutes) included on the dvd?
Is the Turner preview version like an extended version of the 106 minute TC?

Because the original theatrical cut was such a butcher job that nobody really wants to see it anymore. I've got it on VHS so now I guess I can compare all three versions.
