why was garrett killed in the movie.....who were the men with him who shot him

I think, in real life, he got into a dispute with Murphy and the Santa Fe Ring, the same men who wanted Billy dead, they ended up killing Garrett.

Didnt Pat ride off at the end with a kid throwing stones at him?

He dies at the start of the film and rides off stoned at the end...

Actually, the Sante Fe Ring basically busted up around 1890. Garrett was reported killed by Jesse Wayne Brazel, a ranchhand who had been in a dispute with Garrett prior to the shooting. The shooting took place in 1908.

In the movie it states 1909. That's weird.

The Santa Fe Ring was done for in 1908 and Murphy long since dead.

No...Wayne Brazel killed him.
