cool fact
This fact is amazing and weird all at once: 2-5 shots are fired throughout the movie. This is cool because in the other bond films, hundreds of rounds are fired. Did you notice this?

wow that's obsure, I never noticed and now that you mentioned it next time I watch it I will have to count and see if you're right.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite
Interesting point -- one that never occurred to me before. Nice.
But, to be exact, six rounds were fired -- seven, if you include when Kananga discharges the gas gun.
I'm quite certain about the six proper shots, because they were discharged from Bond's revolver, in the graveyard scene. And I was counting, because I almost always count revolver rounds fired in films.
Movie makers have a bad habit of arming their heroes and villains alike with magic six-shooters that can shoot seven shots or more before reloading. To this film's credit, Bond's sidearm was not only limited to a realistic six shots, the audience was also spared from seeing Bond pull the trigger on a discharged cartridge. It's nearly always an insult to the audience when it's spoon fed that old trope -- but it would have been especially insulting to suggest that keeping track of his shots fired wouldn't be second nature for an elite killing machine like James Bond.
Anyway... Yeah, now that you've mentioned it, this Bond flick did have an astonishing lack of gunplay!
EDIT:
My count of the shots fired, obviously, does not include the franchise's ubiquitous, iconic, gun barrel POV opener.
Well, now this thread has me wondering about the aforementioned pull the trigger of a just emptied handgun trope. Has any Bond in the film franchise every been guilty of that? Or, how about the equally cliched sin of racking rounds into already charged shotguns or semiautos? Or of repeatedly (but inexplicably and needlessly) pulling back a handgun hammer? (Worse: doing that with a Glock or other hammerless sidearm!) I'd be very interested to know if there's every been a Bond guilty of these things.
EStreet,
You touched a nerve with me. Oh how I hate the pointless cocking of guns for effect! Even good productions are guilty of it. Example, Lt Spears does it in Band of Brothers while threatening a drunken soldier...with a single action 1911 Government Model .45. It's either cocked once a round is chambered with the saftey applied or uncocked with no round chambered! I just saw the Glock slip up a few days ago, but, I can't recall what the show was.
Back to Bond. I was just watching it on TV and noticed Bond do something similar. He's threatening Rosie with his PPK then racks the slide for effect. If there hadn't been a round chambered, how was he threatening her eariler? Oddly enough, the PPK is one pistol that would work with a thumb cocking a hammer as it is a double action with a hammer drop safety.
As for rounds fired, let's not forget about the suppressed shot from the idol that kills Rosie. Doesn't at least one shotgun get discharged during the boat chase?
I wonder if the fact that Moore is a hoplophobe (look it up) has anything to do with it? Ironic that he served in RN Intelligence in some capacity yet hates handling weapons...
yet his gun handling skills are first rate in all his movies. especially compared to Connery's.
shareExcellent post libertarian45! I find it endlessly amusing that yeah, good guys and villains pull that crap wayyyy too many times in movies. And my reaction is the same, "WTF, were you threatening them with an unarmed gun the first time???" This often occurs AFTER they've been shooting the gun which makes no sense whatsoever.
Thanks, I'm glad that I'm not the only one noticing this gun cocking bs.
Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!

That is a really interesting fact. I knew there wasn't a lot in this film, but sounds like you nailed that one down tight. I think he fired 5 rounds in the graveyard at the end and there may have been the other odd shot that I don't remember.🐭
sharea gun shot in the trademark opening and the helicopter firing at bond and solitare
shareWatched it again today and counted everything:
-Gun Barrel opening
-Poison dart fired by car side-mirror
-Voodoo doll killing Rosie on the island
-Guys flying chasing Bond fires roughly 10 bullets (not exact)
-During airport chase: 2
-Sherriff fires at Bond's motor
-Bond fires 6 times with that Magnum I think
-1 Gas pellet (couch)
-Kananga explodes
I know that some of the ones that I included weren't 'fired' but rather used, e.g when Kananga swallows the bullet. Some weren't even proper bullets but darts etc.
Actual bullets fired tally: 21
With all fired rounds:23
All used rounds:24
All in all, very few guns being used in this Bond film which make it quite unique.
The name's Bond, James Bond.share
Probably because here Bond can incapacitate large goons with a normal bodyblow, two legged kick, or dropping a retractable ladder on them.
