Nothing New Here

"Lemora" has nothing truly new or exciting to say about vampire lore. Yes, I know it was made nearly 40 years ago, but after reading most of the messages here and watching the film itself, I am unmoved. Like most very low budget horror flix, it doesn't really know what to do with itself. Much meandering and stilted dialog and it doesn't know how to end. Yes, it looks somewhat good, but the story doesn't progress to any kind of meaningful conclusion. Even if it was completely without merit like the Saw series or even the Hostel duo it might be of some interest. All I can say about it is I wonder if someone with an imagination might turn up one night with "Cremora, Mistress of the Dork". I can only scratch my head in wonder as I gaze across the spooky lagoon.

Reference is inscrutable because there is nothing to scrute.

This movie wasn't really about vampires, eventhough one of its primary characters happened to be one.

The movie Die Hard isn't about cops, even if its protagonist just so happens to be one. Despite there being a few members of the police in the film, we wouldn't expect it to say anything "new or exciting" about cops, would we? Nevermind that it is regarded as the greatest action film of all time.

Similarly, there are a few vampires in Lemora. That doesn't mean the film was supposed to explore vampires in any way.

Not every movie with a couple gangsters in it is supposed to explore gangster lore; sometimes the story itself is all a given film is interested in focusing on.

There are many flaws with this movie, but the supposed one expressed in your first sentence isn't one of them. The rest of your post is pretty sound though.

If its pretty much correct, as U say, it would be 3/4ths right or 9/10ths right then, not half.

LOL... fair enough, friend.

Me either, but I think he was being clever, even if we don't get it.

Or maybe I'm just being kind. I like to give the benefit of the doubt in many cases.

Seems some people don't agree with you, but film is a subjective art, and I watch these older films because I grew up back then when things were less complicated, but this film has nothing going for it outside of Cheryl Smith being an attractive teen. I have read a few reviews, but they seem to be by people who were able to find the needle in the haystack, cause I couldn't see what was so good about it myself.

I thought I was the only one who found this film underwhelming. It wasn't bad by any means. I loved the creepy, dreamlike atmosphere, the makeup effects, and the use of color, but I just can't see myself calling it a favorite.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

I just watched the film again today since my last post and I change my mind. It was an intriguing film with a very good, creepy atmosphere about it and I don't see how I missed that before. I think I expected it to be just like your typical Gothic vampire movie the first but it had a unique feeling all of it's own that set it apart from other similar films.
