Why they keep calling it "the masturbation scene"??

When they told me that in the movie there was a scene where the girl masturbates with a crucifix, I thought: wow, that's pretty fucked up.

But when I saw the movie my impressions were different, she was not "enjoying herself", I thought the girl was moaning or something... but no. She was practically stabbing her vagina, with a lot of blood, in pain.

That's not how masturbation works!!!

I agree. It was more like an attack. I am not familiar firsthand with how girls do it, but that looked painful.

I've always know of it as the "crucifix scene".

I am listening to the audiobook right now. The book is really graphic and makes no mistake that it is a masturbation scene. The book is really quite good, and that scene in particular is very graphic.

But I am with you, the first time I watched, I never thought she was "pleasuring herself"

I would call it the crucifix scene. Note how no one admitted to placing the crucifix there so possibly the demon had something to do with its being there for this purpose, of having Regan attack herself. This is the one scene which still has the power to shock after all this time. I have read about it shocking even younger viewers who have seen a lot of horror movies.
