De Ja Vu

It's interesting that the plot of this film is structured around de ja vu, which is translated to "already seen", which is very similar in title to "don't look now."

They say that it is when one side of the brain processes information before the other half can put it into context, which is why one perceives the events as a previous memory. Often in the past people that experienced it mistook it for premonition.

So I guess that is my question, was John really foreseeing his future death, or was it something that had perhaps already occurred! I don't even know where I'm going with this... But it's fascinating!

Or as one of the film's makers described it, a convergence of past-present-future that is realised only at the end.

Nick Roeg talks about coincidences versus fate; a favouring of the former makes life chaotic.

I'll be honest, it makes my brain hurt just thinking about it.
