John holding an invisible hand?

Shortly into the scene where John and Laura are lost in the darkened streets, on their way to a restaurant, and she gasps at the sight of a white rat... he remains in a trance-like state and remarks "I know this place." His hand flinches for a second, and it looks like he's holding an invisible one. Anyone else get the same impression?

I thought it was more that he was touching the wall with the back of his hand, as if he'd been there before, remembering it physically almost like he had once touched that exact same part of wall.
