Has anyone read the book?

I have a book full of different short stories that are horror themed and this was in it, saw this movie on a IMDb list and didn't even realise there was a movie! After reading all these posts about a sex scene, I might give it a miss! Old people sex is really not my thing. And the story was only good because it was short!!

Old people sex? The characters/actors must have been in their late 30's. And it's a part of the film/story/character development. It's not about it 'being your thing'. You'd rather see underaged people going at it?

We've met before, haven't we?

who wrote the book/story?

Daphne DuMaurier

Christie was 31/32 and Sutherland 37/38 during the filming. That "old"?

It isn't to me now, but it sure was when I was 20 !

The original short story is rubbish (in my opinion, of course - I think DDM is overrated in general). It has none of the themes, character development or atmosphere of the film, and there are some interesting changes to the plot in Roeg's version.

The story is a creepy little tale, well worth a read, but the film elevates it to a whole different level. It exploits the medium brilliantly and expands on the themes of the book. I think they complement each other wonderfully, but I would watch the film first since the ending depends more on the shock of not knowing what's coming.

Daphne DuMaurier also wrote the original story for three Hitchcock films: Rebecca, The Birds, and Jamaica Inn.
