Location of the movie is so distracting!!!!!

Venice is it's own movie--it's so pretty & lush .....The story here gets too lost in the scenery. I feel like this movie is sitting in a big fluffy over-sized ornate couch-- and it's sinking into the cushions ........This movie should have taken place in Any City USA. I'd even take London. Does the original STORY take place here ??????

Daphne du Maurier set the story there. To be fair though the film goes off the beaten track and avoids most of the famous Venice locations. If you take the canals out of the equation it is not exactly screaming "VENICE!" in your face. Also there is key plot twist which would have been impossible to do without the canal setting, which is probably why du Maurier chose Venice (other than liking the city).
