I saw the video version of this that had an introduction by H.G. Lewis. In it, he states that this film was "lost" and "never screened" in its original form. However, his tone and demeanor sounded none too convincing.
Does anybody know if this film really was "lost" and then "rediscovered", or was this just a promotion tactic to sell a crappy movie on video?
I know it's been over a year since this post lol, but where did you find the video version of this movie?
shareI don't think there's really any reason to look for the VHS just to see the Lewis intro since it comes as an extra on the Something Weird DVD. What Lewis has to say basically amounts to nothing and seems made up right there on the spot, anyway.
shareI don't know how accurate my memory is but I was under the impression that "The Body Shop" was "unfinished", and that may have been what H.G. Lewis meant by lost.
I don't know if it ever got a theatrical release. I think I read somewhere years ago that it might have played drive-ins in the South, but I'm not sure. I doubt that it was ever really lost - Lewis has said in an interview that he had never actually seen this film when he did his introduction, so it seems like it was just a gimmick to make the film seem special.

It definitely had a theatrical release , sometimes as the bottom half of a double bill with Preacherman (1971)
