This vs Dazed & Confused?

I absolutely adore the latter (D&C, and in fact its my favourite movie from the 90's and prob my fave film ever. So is it worth watching American Graffiti?

Yes. You will recognize many stars who weren't famous yet. Try not to look at the cast listing beforehand.

It is a wondrous time capsule, and quite frankly my favorite film of the 70's (while Dazed and Confused was my favorite film ABOUT the 70's).

Happy watching.

American Graffiti is definitely worth watching. Like Dazed & Confused, AG is a classic film set over the course of a less than 24 hour time period in the lives of these teenage kids. An excellent representation of mid-70's high school times.

... that would be Dazed and Confused. As I am sure you know, American Graffiti is set in 1962.

Having viewed both films on the big screen in the last six months, Dazed and Confused is a poor man's version of American Graffiti. Then again, I merely consider Dazed and Confused "decent," whereas you adore it and deem it your favorite film ever, so we are coming from different starting points. Regardless, American Graffiti offers an allegorical resonance that Dazed and Confused simply lacks. American Graffiti is also wittier, more graceful, and more ironic. (And I am not one who considers the film "great," merely "good.")

Looking back, the films serve as a reminder of how much "rock-and-roll" changed between 1962 and 1976—even though there is a lineage at play, the music is almost as if from two different worlds.
