Police Story is now airing on the RTV Network as of TODAY!!!!! RTV Changed it's programming schedule completely!! They are now airing such classics like "Movin' On" "The Saint" "Starsky & Hutch" "Naked City" "New Zorro" and "Route 66!" I am really diggin this new schedule alot more than the previous one!!!!!!!! Thank God for RTV!!!!!!!!!

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

Yes!, I am changing my TV schedualing too! Police Story, Route 66, Moving On!

To show the power of this show to me, unlike other shows that were repeated a lot, this one wasn't. Yet after maybe 2 decades i remember the episodes vividly.
Makes me want to check out Wambaugh's books again too.

I am excited but because it's only playing once a day it comes into conflict with other shows on at the same time; so for now I will have to bide my time.

I'm noticing that the episodes on RTV are very choppy, as if several minutes or scenes are cut out. I've also noticed actors in the closing credits that didn't appear.

Were the episodes originally 90 minutes long?

reply

No they were definitely only 1 hour eps as a series; I too noticed bits 'hacked' out of the story...the most noticeable one for me was in 'Incident in the Kill Zone'--the SWAT ep with Jan Michael Vincent & James Farentino; I seem to recall at the Paranoid Guy's house, his shrink( played by Ron Masak ) was shot at the door house; in the ep, we only see him being bandaged up as he's being 'interviewed' by the SWATs before the 'breach' mission.

Adding to what was already mentioned, at least two episodes are 90 minutes in length: "The Hunters" (Season 1, episode 17) and "The Cut Man Caper" (Season 3, episode 5). Those episodes, including the 2 hour "The Return of Joe Forrester," have not aired on RTV. I have no idea if the network will open up some programming time to air those episodes, as well as the 2 hour episodes from season 5.

If they do get aired, I certainly hope those episodes won't be edited down to fit a 60 minute time slot.

Despite those issues, it is nice to see the show on the air for viewers to rediscover.

PS hasn't been on any TV stations where I live for years until RTV in Key West. Great show! Some of the episodes were a little Hollywood-like but overall, the really caught the grind and procedural process of police work unlike any show since. Nothing current comes even close PS and the rotating cast is unbelievable. It would be great if RTV could program The Name Of The Game and T.H.E. Cat.

Yes! Great show. I watched television like a fiend when I was kid, but only have vague memories of this show (I was fifteen and probably out with my friends.)

It's so refreshing seeing the likes of Bert Convy, Don Meredith, Chuck Connors, Scott Brady, Micheal Cole...get to ACT, and, be damned good at it! Great roster of guest stars.

The camera angles/techniques seem advanced for that time period. The cameraman was actually on the back of a motorcycle in one episode!

I'm fairly certain PS was ahead of its time (Southland is the only other cop show I like as much.)

I just love this show. Makes me want to revisit Wambaugh too :)

Is Wambaugh still writing Novels or true life crime books?

reply

Well, I was getting it on Retro, but they've changed the format, at least in the San Francisco Bay area. Ugh. I was loving it. I hope they release the whole series on DVD soon!

reply

Yeah, I'm in the SF Area too---RETRO TV has been pulled from my cable service as well.
