I just got done watching this for the first time - what a phenomenal movie! I think most of all the script and Ryan O'Neal are just fantastic. Thirty years later, this movie still stands so well. I wish they still made movies like this...
I am glad you got to finally see. It is somewhat of a lost gem. I was so glad to see it finally come to DVD. I ran and got it that same day. One of the few movies that makes me laugh almost non-stop. I even laugh before upcoming scenes cause I know what is about to happen. Clearly a 10 all the way.

Oh, I totally agree. It's great. I laugh everytime, and the jokes are so smart. My favorite character is definatly Eunice. But you know what's sad, I brought this to an outdoor movie night, where they project movies onto a screen, well, anyway, I thought everyone would be howling with laughter like I do, boy was I wrong. It seems like, today, the only humor that people respond to is potty and bathroom talk, or sex and drug stuff. Nobody seems to appriciate good, clean, smart humor.
If you think this was good, try the original: Bringing Up Baby, starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. What's Up Doc is very loosely based on this earlier film.
Just saw it for first time, and the first act, as it were, should have been shortened to get to the more timeless action packed second half. For example, a lot of lines from Kenneth Mars (like his first ones when he's mingling with O'Neal) and other bits are blah blah blah.
Well, when Streisand says the line, its very cool. But its the title of the movie. So its self referential and therefore not nearly as funny. Plus its a Bugs Bunny line, not the title of a movie. I can't see many Warner Brothers cartoon lines working, "I Tot I Taw A Putty Tat". No. "Thufferin Thuckatash." No. "That's All Folks". Maybe.
My then girl friend (and now wife of 30+ years) watched it when it came out and loved it. We have the video and watch it often. We never get tired of it and laugh every time.
It's such an awesome film. One of my personal favorites. I've been searching for the DVD as I only have a grainy taping from a TV airing long ago. It will always remain close to me. Great film all around. I just finished watching it again and I still laugh at the comical sections of the movie (Mrs. Van Hoskins getting tripped in an attempt to delay her return to her suite, Judy's follow of the waiter causing the various mishaps across town, Howard's finding of Judy in the bath, the Bannister suite catching fire; Judy outside on the ledge in nothing but a towel, etc.) A laugh out loud romantic comedy, something that is rare nowadays (don't get me wrong there were a few well made films but nothing like this).

Yes...right you are. This film stands up well today. I love watching it whenever I need a good laugh. It's also very reminiscent of the whacky, madcap comedies of the late 30's and early 40's. Complete and total insanity. That court room scene has to be a classic.
