Michael Murphy
In this incredibly frantic, well-cast comedy classic, it's so easy to
overlook many of the supporting players. After seeing it countless times
over the years, I'm now trying to focus on some of the wonderful
actors who don't get much credit for their contribution.
I'm now realizing how terrific Michael Murphy is in this. He is so
intensely serious (that I'm-not-playing-around-here stare!), that it adds
so much humor. At times, he is so perplexed, especially when he's
woken up by/glancing in disgust at Eunice down the hall. As baffled and
confused as he is, his reactions to her (watch him in court as Eunice
mutters, "They tried to molest me") are of particular irritation. His
performance also helps anchor the picture, as the other characters -
delightful though they are - tend to fall into a cartoonish frenzy. I
also love his look of sheer terror when he ducks that punch at Larrabee's
party.
Good work from him. He was also pretty damn hot.
