A bit disappointed

I love Paper Moon so much, I thought this would be can't-miss. Barbra Streisand is sexy and delightful in this role, and there are occasional gags that are hysterically funny. But on the whole, this movie is too silly and slapsticky for me. Kind of the Groucho Marx style of hammy line delivery, like they should be playing rimshots after each punchline.

That was kind of the intent. It was a reinvention of the screwball comedy.

Guess that's not my cup of tea, or they didn't pull it off.

Well, I won't say it's an acquired taste, but the films it borrowed from weren't exactly all that funny to begin with. Example; Bringing Up Baby is a one trick pony with the leopard roving all over the place. If you get by that, then you've essentially got 90% of the gags. What's Up Doc tries to throw more stuff in there.

Not your cup of tea...and about 30 years too late even... WUP? is one of the all-time funniest movies with a near-perfect cast and script!

Couldn't agree more. I've watched it 3 times in less than a week, introducing it to my daughters, and I could easily watch it over and over and over again.

There's just... Something special. I think it's the fact that she was channeling Lombard, and is the only time I've ever seen someone come close to achieving that kind of comedic timing and charisma.

Speaking of that, I need to watch To Be or Not To Be again.
