What do the 'guests' say about each of the characters?

Each character has his own 'guest' which varies widely in its form for each character. At some point it is mentioned that, perhaps, it is merely a passing memory which can take shape and that the potential for horrors could ensue should the imagery of a nightmare be mimicked by the ocean.

I wonder, what do the 'guests' represent for each man on the station?

Kris - his dead wife
Snaut - a young boy?
Gibarian - a preteen girl
Sartorius - a midget
Fechner - his four meter tall infant son

Since the Solaris Ocean creates entities based on the dreams and memories of the visitors, Kris is obvious: he's haunted by the suicide of his wife. Since she never leaves his thoughts, Solaris continually re-creates her.

The others are all problematic. Did Fechner see an image of his own infant son, or just an infant child? I don't recall Gibarian's account of his visitor, and was under the impression that Snaut's visitor was a girl or young woman.

When I first saw the movie, I thought that Sartorius' visitor was a small child, but on second viewing I saw that it was indeed a dwarf. Perhaps Solaris was re-creating something from Sartorius' nightmares. Alternatively, Sartorius seemed to have the best understanding of how Solaris operated, so perhaps he was intentionally "willing" Solaris to create bizarre beings for his own amusement.

My 2c is that Gibarian's preteen girl represents that he is a closeted pedophile - notice her somewhat skimpy outfit and the tender way she hands him a glass of milk in the vid. That's why he refused to let anyone in his room because they would figure out what's going on.

Alternatively, it could have been Gibarian's daughter (perhaps deceased like Kelvin's wife)?

In the case of Dr. Sartorius, I suspect that he was similar to a couple of other Stanislaw Lem creations - Drs. Diagoras and Carcorian (sp?) in Memoirs of a Space Traveler, recluses (like Sartorius) who create worlds of artificial organisms to communicate with and for their amusement. Perhaps Sartorius needed a dwarf for his personal freakshow?

In the book, Gibarian's guest was a black woman. When Lem wrote the book mingling of white and black wasn't so socially acceptable. But I firmly believe Tarkovsky strongly implied in the movie that Gibarian was a pedo.

First of all she doesn't look Armenian, second of all why would he kill himself if she was his daughter. Kevin had no problem introducing his ex wife to the other guys. No, there was something so bad so shameful that Gibarian would rather kill himself than get caught...

Gabarian thought these apparations only came to him, which is why he was so secretive. Out of fear the others would think him insane.
I'm not dismissing the idea that he may have been a dirty old man though.

We've met before, haven't we?
