Why does hunters in the snow appear in this film?

I noticed it appear in Melancholia. Writing an essay on the painting itself right now and thought I'd throw in it's appearance as a fun fact/ relation to the emotions it can evoke. I need to watch both films again, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts to why it appears, and even why it pans across certain parts?

A few things I've found out about the painting in research:

-It was commissioned by a wealthy merchant as part of a series of paintings that depict the 'labors of the month', so it's 1 in a series of 6 (5 survived)

-Lot of speculation but it's generally agreed that the location depicted doesn't actually exist, although the work as a whole is accurate to the life of the rural 16th century dutch.

-Although it's a renaissance painting, it's different from most of the typical one. It isn't composed for the eye of a single viewer, but rather the hunters guide the eye outwards into the spread out village below. (i.e The Death of Socrates)
