Interesting

One thing I had noticed when reading the reviews for this movie was that many people admitted to crying when they saw it (I'm guilty of it too). What I think is interesting about that is the fact that Charles Schulz created characters so enduring that we had become attached to them and the though of one of them leaving would make us upset, especially a character like Snoopy.

Ya know, I actually read somewhere that some ppl thought this movie was too depressing and yada yada yada. But, when you think about it, stuff like that happens to ppl, as an adult or kid, it's sorta....life. I mean, I know exactly how Charlie Brown feels, cus my bestfriend is leaving for Cali Monday. And, I gotta admit, I'm like all melancholy n stuff;he's gonna be many, many miles away. Ya know what I mean?
Mr. Shultz was giving life lessons in these wonderful episodes and movies. And, alot of it, REALLY hit home for most of us.

I cry too. Its very sad. As ifd Snoopy leaving wasnt sad enough Charlie Brown has a song he sings about how whenever things seem to be going well for him changes roll in and complicate things and how he wishes there werent so many "Good byes" in life. Very touching.

OMG. "You know what I need, I need more hellos"...That song, *sigh*...I only remember a few of the lyrics, but I remember the scene o too well. But it's so weird how that is the very FIRST song to pop in my head when things start going horribly wrong. (That and that My Little Pony song that Lickity Split sings when they stop by the well and find that flutter pony....) *damn I miss the 80's*

P.S.--I found The Care Bears and My Little Pony downloads. Wish I could find that Charlie Brown tune somewhere....

It's nice to find people that can identify with the sadness of this film, and understand it's comparison to our own lives. After I graduated from college, it seemed like my life was falling apart. It seemed like everything good in my life was dissapearing. But I had my girlfriend, or so I thought. Things started to fall apart for us and I knew the very night that she broke up with me, that she was going to do so on the drive over. I listened to the Charlie Brown tune "It Changes" over & over & over, realizing this is what my life has become. She was the most special part of my life. My Snoopy; and she had chosen to be somewhere else, than with me. That was two years ago and I've put my life back together, but it's funny that a song I've know since I was a child, now associates with a time period when I was an adult. The song is also the opening quote to my journal.

For yukaunagi: I own the soundtrack and would be happy to make you a copy if you wish. AOL IM: WCUPHI144
I also own many 80s cartoon themes and soundtracks that are nearly impossible to find.

That...has got to be the second best (and not to mention coolest!) thing I've heard and read all day....

I'm in my early 30s and my best frined is in his late 30s. Its funny cuz one day I mentioned CHARLIE BROWN SPEACIALS and he said "The best one was SNOOPY COME HOME" and he could remember that song. It's like....when things are bad....it was almost like he could remember that song in his head.....wow...pretty powerful for a cartoon!

I found this movie very touching and It's one of the rare moves that I've cried with, specially in the scene where Charlie Brown sings a very sad and touchin' song.

Yeah, I felt extremely sad too when I saw this as a kid. I love Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang and it was extremely depressing (especially during the going away party) that Snoopy had to go.

And even at the end, I still felt kinda sad for the girl. But at least Snoopy went back home, that was gratifying.

Not sure if I cried throughout the entire movie, but i'm sure I did during the party. I felt like I was part of the entire thing.

And i'll never forget the "No Dogs Allowed" tune everytime Snoopy tried to go on Human transportation and all that.

reply

Oh yeahhh - NO DOGS ALLOWED with the deep Barry White voice LOL!

And of course the big sign at the hospital: no dogs allowed OR birds.. it didn't stop Snoop & 'Stock from seeing Lily.
I have this on VHS - looking forward to the DVD.

Remember the scene when Snoopy was leaving the hospital and he tears up and runs back to her??? major waterworks to be sure... The party really is the saddest scene in the movie though... I had quite a few friends move away or pass away over the years and this film really hits home for me....

There is a bit of realism over Lila's feelings for Snoopy. After he breaks down and runs back to see her, she makes it sound so easy to just come and live with her.

But Lila doesn't quite realize how much Snoopy has or what he'll be leaving behind.

Though there's something very rending about the scene after Snoopy leaves, and it seems for the rest of the day into the night, Charlie Brown is just beside himself. He can't sleep, he tries to make himself some cold cereal but can't eat it. He's torn asunder by this all. It's like a parent whose child has been taken from them without any chance of reprisal.

It's not just Charles and it's not just the characters.

If the same story was told by different characters, but the same atmosphere, same musics, same visuals (besides the characters), same singing, same feel, etc., people would cry just as much.

This movie doesn't make people cry because of Charles or the characters, but all the other things I mentioned. 1970s atmosphere alone is strong and thick enough to make someone cry, let alone touching story, songs like this, and visuals to match.

As they say, making people cry is easy, making people laugh is hard.
