That song is pretty poignant.
If you consider all the people you have met but forgotten, it's a powerful message.
However, you can even expand the idea a bit by realizing there must be more people you've forgotten, when you consider your past incarnations. No matter how 'close' you are to someone, or how much you 'love' them, in 100 or 200 years, you have forgotten them absolutely and completely.
There might have been someone you really loved spending time with and had many adventures together, and thought you could never forget in your past incarnation - and now you're blissfully unaware that they ever even existed, sans some tiny emotion that you might feel on some full moon autumny night, a tiny feeling that tugs you just enough to make you feel restless for a moment, before making you sink back into blissful ignorance again.
It's a sad thought, isn't it..? We can't ever just be together with people for long. When the body dies, and we incarnate again at some point, the people that we thought we'd always remember, will be completely forgotten.
