Why was Lila in the hospital anyway?

I don't think it ever stated why. I wonder if she recovered.

Lila had a miscarriage.

She had what tvtropes.com calls a "Soap Opera Disease". It's never explicitly stated or even physically manifested.

You can watch "Why, Charlie Brown, Why?" on YouTube. If you thought THIS movie was a tearjerker...

But the funny thing was...the girl Janice in that show looked a LOT like Lila in this!

I didn't WHY charlie browbn exsited UNTil COUPKE OF YEARS ago. THe only atttemp I know of Charles Shcilz to do a socil isse Story. WEll done Mr S ;] Heartbreaking

Lila clearly never got over losing Snoopy, and it made her crazy. She stalked Charlie Brown and wrote a letter to Snoopy assuming Snoopy learned how to read and knew which exact hospital to go to. During this outburst she completely forgot her cat and the "No Dogs" ordinance.

Her illness was not revealed because back then they were very concerned that the audience would imitate what is on television / cinema and as a result they tried to avoid talking aobut illenesses. They did not want to give sick people unnecessary hope.

Lila was in the hospital, because she was ill.
