Bumper Sticker

In the scene where Billy's wife crashes at the hospital, there is a Reagan bumper sticker on the trunk lid.
Now as far as I can determine(by the year of the Caddy) this takes place around 1966-1968, made in 1972 well prior to his running for Pres and in the first year of his Governorship of Cal. so why the sticker when they lived in NY state?

I assume it was a mistake on the film crew's part.

Wrong. Your comment shows that you didn't read the book. Vonnegut describes the bumper sticker in his book.

Reagan was a very popular governor in the 60s, and his ardent fans encouraged him to run for president back then, although he didn't formally run until 1976, when he lost in the primaries to Gerald Ford.
