a gem - highly recommended!!!

this film and book have bypassed me completely till now - how can that be??!! watched the movie last weekend and was completely enarmoured by the wit, elegance, quirkyness and cleverness of it all.
george roy hill is a strangely underrated director, and this film should be MUCH more appreciated by a wider audience. it is on the same level of intensity as other anti-war-movies like schindlers list or apocalypse now, but it has also got aliens, porn actresses, optometrists, car crashes (obviously an inspiration for john landis) and dresdner porcelaine... whats not to like?!

i started reading the book and really like it although i am only on page six. very very good.
