How are the Tralfamadorians depicted?

I love this book, and recently saw a very entertaining high-school production of it. I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of the DVD, however, and I'm very curious as to how the Tralfamadorians were depicted. I'm sure they weren't the hands-on-plungers that we all associate with them, but if that is the case, than what are they? Human looking? Offscreen voices? Are they the actual plunger-hands?

They were off screen voices. You hear many of them applauding when Billy first gets there and again when Montanna arrives but only one male voice addresses them directly.
