Damn it Jim! Im a doctor not a zoologist!!

I remember seeing parof this horrible movie and the rabbits "stampede" through the minature set. this is very deserving of mst3k and find it funny that deforest did this

reply

1972...Star Trek the original had ended and it would be a few years before it would be resurrected on the big screen.

I think Deforest did this because he needed to do something and maybe earn some money.

reply

that may be true but its still sad to me that an established actor had to do a movie like that

reply

I'm not sure if DeForest Kelley was exactly at the same level as Janet Leigh, but yeah, sometimes actors have to work on pretty crappy films or tv shows. Well, that or infomercials.

reply

They weren't any in the 70s, man.

I'm not sure how "established" DeForest Kelley was at the time of Lepus. He was a bit-parter in films and a television actor before Star Trek, and even though ST is legendary today, it was not a ratings hit during its production run and was summarily canceled. ST didn't really get big until years of exposure in syndication, and I think that was just gathering momentum when Funny Killer Rabbit Movie here was being made.

Of the cast, Janet Leigh had the highest profile, but I think that during this time actresses had a relatively short shelf life and had to scramble for work. Even Joan Crawford wound up doing Trog as her last film--and that's after a pretty damn good turn in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?. And Leigh was not the most gifted actress of her generation.

understood.

so you cooked up a story and dropped the six of us in a meat grindah.

This deffinantly beats infomercials.

A semi-quote that is always attributed to Vincent Price about the horrible schlock movies he used to be in:

(Something along the lines of)
I like art, and making these movies pays me so I can collect it.

reply

True. Informercials will come and go, but films like this achieve an immortality of their own.

reply

I love this cheesy movie. It belongs on a drive-in double feature with Kingdom of the Spiders.

Next time you see me, it won't be me

reply

That's only if you want the "Star Trek" connection. This film is on the level of "The Giant Spider Invasion" (1975).

Actually, the giant Volkswagen-spider isn't all that bad effects-wise. Then, there's the spider in the blender...

Hello there MystMoonstruck great to see you here on this board too  .

Hi!

I haven't been able to do much lately. I'm still recuperating from Mother Nature's latest attack on me. She can't keep me away too long 'cause I can be very stubborn!

TCM is AMAZING! After 31 Days of Oscar, we get to see "Spider Baby", "Equinox", "Night of the Lepus" and more in broad daylight instead of in the wee hours of the morning.

More like, Damn it Jim, I'm an out of work actor and my career is in need of a "Star Trek" revival soon! Had a lot of laughs with a friend while watching this one on TCM last night.

This campy cheese makes the original "Star Trek" series look like A level material in comparison.

Yes, this one is definitely worthy of a "Rifftrax". Especially if the copyright has expired and they could make a VOD of it, like they did with "Night of the Living Dead", "Plan 9", etc.,.

DeForrest looked pretty good in this movie, filmed about half way between his two
Star Trek go-rounds. But he must have beamed down to the set by mistake. I thought it was strange none of the actors in "Lepus" hammed it up, but seemed to take their roles fairly seriously.

Acting is a job, sometimes you just take what comes along.

With the mustache, Kelley reminded me a lot of Cliff Robertson.
